In Autumn, bears spend their days eating as much as they possibly can in order to build the fat reserves necessary to survive the long, cold winter. In this particular corner of Grand Teton National Park, the numerous hawthorne trees produce an abundance of berries and the black bears can not get enough. However, unusually warm temperatures during the day drove the bears to take occasional breaks from the berries for a cool drink and even a quick dip.
