With spring just around the corner, these arctic visitors would soon leave Washington's shores, embarking on a long journey back north. As this clock wound down, I needed to make a trip to the coast for this rare experience. Just after the sun dropped below the horizon, clouds caught the last light of the day, creating a beautiful pastel canvas as a backdrop for this magnificent Arctic visitor. And in those fleeting moments of the day, as the owl paused to stare at me momentarily, I felt incredibly honored to have encountered a creature that I had previously only dreamt of seeing in the wild.
